Black Maternal Health Week: Crisis and Hope
Soul 2 Soul Sisters, COBALT and the NAACP of the Rocky Mountains are partnering to co-host a kickoff event for Black Maternal Health Week. The Black Mamas Matter Alliance has designated this year’s theme as Our Bodies Belong to Us: Restoring Black Autonomy and Joy! to amplify the practices and evidence-based solutions that speak to the true needs and desires of Black mamas and birthing people. We will be joined by two incredible advocates for Black Maternal Health. Breana Lipscomb from the Center for Reproductive Rights will offer the national context of Black maternal health and the reason for Black Maternal Health Week. Justina Nazario, a local Black/AfroLatina student Midwife and Certified Birth Assistant at Seasons Community Birth Center, will speak to her experiences and the landscape of Black Maternal Health in Colorado.”
